Travelling in the North of Portugal

Very nice pictures, thanks for sharing them. :) I was thinking about a trip to Portugal some time - perhaps next year. Is it easy to find places where it is legal to drive on unmade roads? In the UK it is getting increasingly difficult. :( A smalll group of us went to the Spanish Pyrenees for a few days earlier this year and had a fine time. :)

Chris and Mo, :D

Thanks for your welcome.

Chris,

For now, the situation is acceptable for 4x4 drivers.

The restrictions exists in two modes:

1. The classification of the local where you are driving and restrictions involved;

2. The months of July, August and September.

For the 1. we have a link with all the parks and legislation about:

http://portal.icn.pt/ICNPortal/vPT/Areas+Protegidas/

The 2. tells you that for tracks with a special road sign on the entrance, you should not use that track on those three summer months, because there are many trees and also risk of fire. If the mountains have no trees (a great part) there is no restriction.

Mo,

Living here I am “doubtful”, but this country has on its little area a great variety of lands: Mountains, planes, “green”, arid, seaside, humid clima, dry one. Yes, I believe it is a good place for a travelling holiday.

Cheers

Hi Barros and welcome.

I was over in the Lousa area last month in my Defender and also travelled from South to the North in Oct 2006 on way back to the UK from Morocco, fantastic country side and really made welcome by the locals.

We had a travelling holiday found loads of tracks and places to drive.

And the same machine has a saw (we can´t see in the photo (rest position)) that after bark strip it cut the round log of wood in pieces! :o

We need to include that one on our itinerary, the pool would be a good stop if it's hot :) What temperatures can we expect at the end of May ?

For sure this itinerary will be included. In meteo subject, this year has not been a typical one. The spring, included May, was rainy and cold. Normally at end of May it is 23ºC maximum, the same that was last Saturday.

Cheers,

Hello :D ,

The 12, 13 and 14 October a nice track in Spain, Ourense with some good friends B) .

The track was near three provinces: Ourense, Leon and Zamora.

We had dinner and slept at Hotel Ciervo in Xares.

The blue sky and the beautifull sun helped to read the horizons
