Shackleton
I have the '73 sitting beside a '91 and notice that the '91 is shorter by a decent amount. Now it's sitting on 70 profile tyres by comparison to the '73's 80 profile but the difference is greater then 10mm, It's more like 1.5" give or take and I'm wondering whether it's had 2" lift (the tyre's being the discrepancy) or were the later cars just lower as part of the better road holding mods? discojmz
dont forget the difference between a 70 and 80 profile tyre is not 10mm, well not unless the tyre is only 100mm wide
bishbosh
Measure the spring seat distance on the front. Standard ride height is 10".
Shackleton
Err, distance between the two ends of the spring?
bishbosh
Yup - from the seat on the axle to the seat on the chassis.
Shackleton
Cool, thanks Bish! I assume thats with the engine in right? Cause it isn't in, damn pmsl. Should the rear be 10" too?
bishbosh
Rear is not 10". Should be more. Don't know how much more. Having the engine in is the general idea.....
clbarclay
The profile ie 70 is the % height the side wall is of the tread width. 205/80R16 and 235/70R16 actually work out at about the same overall diameter. IIRC the ride height was reduced on latter range rovers, from what I can make out it was partly the fact that latter range rovers had so much extra weight compressing the springs though spring specs did change a couple of times with the rears going to progressive with the introduction of EFi and again with the introduction of anti roll bars.
