pugwash
this is a minefield the details on this post will help http://nw.rhocar.org/SVA%20&%20reg%20assistance.htm here are some other helpful links: http://www.dvla.gov.uk/media/pdf/consultat...cons_190404.pdf http://www.dvlni.gov.uk/vehicles/vehicle_forms/INF26.pdf http://www.trike-register.co.uk/newsystem/index.php?page=q-a basically if your car will not pass a VIC then you are having an SVA- in other words if what it says on the logbook does not match the vehicle then you are having an SVA (unless you convince DVLA and VOSA that you have a kit conversion). If you have "radically altered" your vehicle then you need an SVA and re-registration of the vehicle, which may result in either an age related plate or a Q plate. the question of what is "radically altered" is the grey area- but it is my opinion that your car is radically altered if you do NOT replace like parts with exact manufacturer parts- ie if you replace you 200tdi with a BMW 2.5tdi from a P38 then technically you need an SVA. The question to ask is this- if i had an accident would any semi competent automotive engineer have any reason to beleive that my vehicle was different to the manufacturers original specifications. If you have changed axles/engines/chassis (apart from direct replacements for new parts) then you need an SVA. i would suggest that you talk to VOSA/DVLA if you have questions but i am pretty sure that you won't get any sort of sense out of them. p.s. like many people for a long time i used to get the "points system" confused with the need for SVA. The vosa points scheme is only for registration of the vehicle (ir whether you get an age related plate or a q plate) not for determination of the necessity for an SVA (although it may be a good indicator). missingsid
Thanks for the replies to my quick question. And for the replies to the post in general. So basicaly the SVA people do not know themselves? Or more reasonably it is no clearer to them than to us!
