alan kemp
After losing two Stauns in the Euro challenge, (as well as the same halfshaft as Chris), my Simex's are going into the bin and I need some bealocked wheels, sharpish. Mach 5's are weeks for delivery and I would prefer some closed wheels. I need a narrow front offset about 3 inches to keep the width down. Going to try boggers but the narrowest tyres available are 13" wide which requires a 10" wheel. Where can I buy 16" x 102 wide beadlocks with a 3" ish offset???????????????? I ask, as I was thinking of buying a set.btw, I have bin you can use to throw away the Simex in Cheers Steve The Stauns were trashed by knocking the valves off in mud that contained stones, the stem near the centre of the wheel, picked a stone and trapped it on the brake caliper so breaking the stem, the tyre then deflates and comes off the rim. Not possible to weld a big enough guard over the stem as that would catch the caliper...
Chris Abel
Devon only get them to order and have quoted a long delivery. Who else sells them? Ive got a set of 16 x 8 mach 5 beadlocks on order but im wondering if having a narrow rim with 37x14.5.16 Iroks could cause the tyre to roll excessively sideways when using low pressures, should i change them for a 10 inch rim? Just tried volvo truck and bus in Thetford for the front half shaft, I quoted the part number 644069.. I was told that was not a volvo part number?! which Truck and bus dealer should i go to with such obscure axle part requests? Im not even sure yet if it is a shaft...... Ill pull the portal box off tonight after ive cleaned it.
gsr341
alan some people have had trouble getting hold of tim , but he does some beed lock wheels http://www.straightforwardsupplies.co.uk/c...tml%23a222#a222 failing that , a mate of mine ( http://www.macsport4x4.com ) was looking in to making beedlockers as well (where did we come in the end alan ?) pugwash
www.stazworks.com would be imporated but they still work out cheaper than Mach 5s Jez has/had a set.
dollythelw
short side or long side Chris? stock or CroMo? Stazworks are another option for wheels - lead times can be shaved if you pay for the "express" service but even then you need to bully John along to get them on time. Specialist Leisure are normally pretty good on leadtimes for boggers
Chris Abel
short side or long side Chris? stock or CroMo? Its the short side i think, Ill have a look tonight and see what the damage is Is Cromo alot stronger and by using stronger shafts that will obviously put more strain on the portal gears & CV, is it not best to use a stock shaft using them as the weak link? whats the cost of the two types of shaft? Thanks Chris
dollythelw
I'll get a price tonight for you but its not a lot more expensive than a stock shaft, the portal gears are plenty up to the job - next week link is the CV and theres a 4340 upgrade available for those too (£375 a pair at the current exchange rate plus shipping) (its the one in the backround - the front one is a bit special) working on a diff upgrade ATM for a bit of future proofing sorry - meant to type LA Supertrux for boggers, I really need to get some sleep
FridgeFreezer
Devon and bogger delivery times? Where's Pali with the answer to that one?
alan kemp
whats the cost of the two types of shaft? Jez, it sounds like chris and I have done the same shaft, I think mine broke on the wheel side of the locker as the locker was jammed in. It later came out and I ended up with rear wheel drive only. My lorry would have got up steeper hills than a L/R with only two wheel drive! I have a spere shaft but no locker gear. Do you have any and how much. cheers
dollythelw
Ive got a locker gear spare Alan - you're welcome to use it if you're stuck for one, Im off to Finland on Wednesday so will track down a heap of stuff (got to find a spider gear for Rich), Im bringing back some Zil parts for next years car so if you want any bits ping me ASAP and I will try to get something arranged

D9OSV
TWO Volvo Halfshafts on one event............? Thats a bit rare ain't? or do they break regular? I thought the whole point of 303's is that they don't break? Suprised Jim

Ill pull the portal box off tonight after ive cleaned it. Chris, Devon told me I need a 10" rim for 13" tyres. Your volvo wheels are norrower than an 8" mach 5 and you "seem to manage". I used one in the midlands but I would buy off Jez as a half shaft is £4500.00 +vat (but you do get a free CV with it and they wont charge you carriage). Good place to get the rubber gaiters from but that is all I would buy from a genuine Volvo dealership.

I thought the whole point of 303's is that they don't break? Suprised Jim Very rare, we both broke on the rocks although mine did'nt go bang. As the scruitineers put it after seeing all the retired cars "they were stretched on Saturday and broke on Sunday" I have never broke one before, did a CV once but that was in a fall from a great height onto the wheel with the CV. Jim, you need to get your order in for one of the last 2.8 TGV's before they disappear, awesome in water I believe
Chris Abel
How the Futt can Volvo charge £4500 + vat Jez i think i might go for some of those Bling cromo bits, depending on what i find when i take a look in the axle
FridgeFreezer
Chris, Some of it is on a military part# so you won't get it unless the military decide they won't need it. If you want a laugh, get a quote for a steering arm. Happily I don't think there's anything Jez can't sort out one way or another, he's a nice chap like that. dollythelw
they are sealed numbers and wont be "unsealed" until the last Volvo has left the services, its not a biggy though - theres all kinds of shiny bits about. The shafts can be sourced in 300M, 4340 or standard, CVs in 4340 or standard, diff parts can be a pain but thats being worked on, Crack it open ASAP Chris if you want me to do some shopping while Im away. My mistake for not checking the ECU, you live you learn. I don't know if they do them to fit Volvo? but try Rock-a-thon beadlocks they are very helpful and really excellent wheels.
