Les Henson
I finallly bolted the 'good as new' head back on catflaps engine this afternoon. New hotspots, new pegs (yes they are a B*^*)(%d to get out. Everything is cleaner than a clean thing, including the rocker shaft, rockers, fiddly little things that go on the top of the valve stems etc etc Ennywahey the head bolts torque setting is 91 ft lbs. I have NEVER seen a torque wrench that has 1 ft lb increments. Just thought I'd have a bit of a moan Les.

BogMonster
Les You use 90lbft and then half a grunt for the extra
western
No torque wrench is that accurate, at work we have to use the torque analyser to set them before use, I reckon if you set it at 90 and give it a extra tug, it'll work fine

Do it up 'til it strips, then give it it 'nutha half a turn.

john cranfield
I suspect the Ftlb figure is converted from another unit of measurement, Newton/meters or gerbil/antelopes or somesuch. John
cols110
I think the proper way is to keep going till you snap something, split a few knuckles open, then do the rest to a bit less. Most of the ratchet type ones where you tighten the handle up to increase tension are usually graduated in 1ft/lb increments.
Turbocharger
Do it up to 1ft-lb, then 90ft-lb... the bolt will add them together mechanically...
