Mikey
Hi. Recently bought an old (L reg) 300 TDi auto, 128,000 miles on the clock. It goes well but sounds a bit noisy and don't know if it is running as well as it should. I was wondering what I should get to the gallon. Over the last 1000 miles I have averaged 27 mpg, that would be town driving and a few long runs. How does that compare with an engine in good nick? JST
thats sounds pretty good for a 300 Auto to me, 200 manuals IIRC were the best around 30-32mpg then 300 around 28/29mpg and 1mpg less for autos. depends how its driven though.

Pete Attryde
Just to echo what the others have said I also get about 27-33 to the gallon from mine depending on the type of driving i do. Mine is now non EDC but with a tweeked mechanical pump and if anything I get slightly better consumption since the change. HTH Pete.

sotal
I just monitored my 95 Auto EDC 300tdi and I got 27mpg, nearly all my driving is to work and back, which is 4 miles either way with lots of steep hills, so my foot has to be quite hard down half of the time
Guy H
Get 21mpg from mine Hopefully getting the pump & injectors rebuilt soon so fingers crossed

Mikey
OK folks, thanks for your replies. I seem to be doing about average I guess, so I don't suppose there can be too much wrong with my engine. . I must admit I tend to use kick-down quite a bit (novelty of having an auto I guess), so maybe I will achieve better with a lighter foot in the future. Cheers. Thys
Hi.Recently bought an old (L reg) 300 TDi auto, 128,000 miles on the clock. Hi Mikey, My 300 TDi Auto (non EDC) with 112500 miles on the odo, in town peak traffic, that is crawiling and stationary most of the time at 4 milles to work, returns 23 mpg. Open road at 75 mph with travel distances of 220 miles, which includes driving through villages returns 30 mpg. Both trips includes the use of the air conditioning system. Your discovery's average sounds good to me, taking into consideration the mass of the Discovery, the fact that the vehicle is in permanent four wheel drive and not one of the best in terms of aerodynamics.
