So, What's This Lamp For, Then?

Recommended Posts

Armed with my new chart of Land Rover wiring colours (see International forum yesterday) I set about tidying up behind the dash. Hanging around behind the right hand side of the instruments is a loose white wire with orange tracer, with a lamp on the end, which is "hot" when the ignition is on and lights up when earthed. My wiring diagram doesn't show this, so what is it?

(Oops, meant to put this in the Defender forum...)

Looking at the all models [Defender] 1986 to 1991 wiring diagram in my workshop manual, it tells me the WO = White/Orange trace wire is for---

Norwegian daytime running lights, the wire is shown connecting into the warning light cluster connectors, also a power feed for the radio,

common connector into the engine bay,

air condition feed when fitted -- you should be able to find this one in the engine bay adjacent to the big connectors near the clutch and brake pedal boxes

goes to ignition switch,

and to the fuese box to power the heater connections.

tracing that lot should keep you busy,

looks like a previous owner has added that light for something.

Funny thing that is, I was just in Norway and apparently the lights must be wired in so that that can not be turned off. They must be on at all times, it's the law.

Here in Sweden, we can still turn off the daytime running lights at the switch.

Todd.

:o S'funny, was that the smell of burning bulk PVC insulation I could just smell over the Eucalypts or was it the smell of the English Cricket Board making a new pot of Ashes? :P:rolleyes:

You not sick of cricket yet Des?

It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings, M. Froot. :D

"

It's Not Over Until We Win

How the tears of joy shall flow and our smiles will beam and glow.

When those bad old foes we've fought for years finally fall from one last blow.

So don't give up on hope to soon girl, before this day arrives

Just heave a sigh and try to dry all these teardrops from your eyes,

'Cause there's still time for me and you. There's still love to see us through.

There's still miles of road we've yet to travel and so much we still can do.

So won't you choose now to lose these blues and remember this my friend,

That it's not over girl, until we win.

It's not over 'till our adversary's down for the count. It's not over till the last bell rings.

It's not over 'till the crowd stands up to scream and shout,

Until the big ol' friendly fat lady sings.

And as far as I know there's a ways yet to go,

So we might as well hang tough 'till the end

'Cause it's not over girl, until we win. No it's not over girl until we win.

When ever I stop and think about the many times we faced impossible odds,

When the hopelessness and despair felt so intense,

That we didn't think we could hold out any longer.

Yet time and again we were given the grace to overcome those odds,

And the courage to keep fightin' the fight,

Now what it proves to me is, we got angels watchin' over us.

So if you can, just keep your hope alive for a little bit longer,

And keep believing in the promise that the truth will one day set us free,

Then there shall be a glorious future awaiting us girl.

For I've read the end of the story, and it's not over until we win!

Yeah"
