I guess your uncle's 300tdi doesn't fall in the ranges listed here: http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=12788 or the mods were done at some point of its life.

Many people use the kit showed in the 1st picture of this thread: http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=6943

What u can see in that picture is [the #s in brackets are pos in the picture below]:

STC4096L [11+24+2+4+5+6+7+8+9] timing kit

ERR4575(G) [18] crankshaft front oil seal

ERR7143(G) [15] crankshaft timing cover seal

These are the min recommended bits.

Depending on your choice and/or state of the parts, you might consider replacing:

ERR3356(G) [17] camshaft oil seal

ERR4710 [10] crankshaft o-ring

ERR5215 [3] woodruff key

(G) means that u can get the genuine part (recommended) ERR4575G or OEM/aftermarket ERR4575.

"ERR7143(G) [15] crankshaft timing cover seal"

I thought it was ERR4576, not that we change them unless the case has the old metal seal.

Preferably get the kit from Bearmach not LR, STC4096K which will have a forged crank pulley not the spot-welded OEM LR one which falls to bits and takes your engine with it.

It's ERR7143 for VINs from VA560898

and ERR4576 for VINs up to VA560897

What I didn't like at the Bearmach kit was that there was nothing written on the bearings, I couldn't find anything about them.

At least the "L" kit I bought had NSK bearings.

Do you happen to have a spot welded crank pulley that you took out and shows some signs of wear or fell into pieces? I mean I take your word for this but it would be interesting to see one (and perhaps what mileage?).
