philbert Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 Can anyone tell me if the bulkhead corner repair panels have to be welded on for an mot? Quote
western Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 I would say Yes simply because it has to continue the structural integratity of the bulkhead & cos it is part of the load bearing area for the front door hinges. Quote
JimAttrill Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 How else were you going to hold them on? Superglue? Quote
philbert Posted October 28, 2007 Author Posted October 28, 2007 How else were you going to hold them on? Superglue? close i was planning on using super strong aircraft adhesive if its good enough to hold aircraft together then a small bulkhead patch should cause it no problems! Quote
Mo Murphy Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 I'd weld them in philbert, and do the job properly. Mo Quote
philbert Posted October 28, 2007 Author Posted October 28, 2007 I'd weld them in philbert, and do the job properly.Mo i will do the job properly i'll fit a new bulkhead when i have time. what im asking is if i bond the repair panels on will it fail or pass its mot? Quote
zulublue Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 If its bonded, filled and sprayed they probably will not notice Quote
FridgeFreezer Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Depends how picky your MOT man is and how well you do the job - I can't see it being a problem but then I'd weld 'em on anyway and save mucking about. Quote
philbert Posted October 28, 2007 Author Posted October 28, 2007 Thanks all i totally agree with welding them on but will bond them and hope for a blind mot man cheers Quote
Raph Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 The welding is so easy I don't see why bother with bonding - by the time you've cut the things to make a half decent job, you've done nine tenths of the work and the welding bit is ten minutes a side, and there's no waiting for anything to cure. Though if you don't have any welding gear, that might be a good reason not to, I suppose... PS where do I get this stuff that's so strong it's as strong as welding? There are sometimes good reasons not to weld something - usually to do with heat or difficulty in getting a decent electrical contact - or, more mundane reason, when it's not metal you're dealing with! ... in these cases some serious bonding would be a good thing! Les Henson Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 If you're going to fit a new bulkhead anyway then you could repair it with filler and paint it. Les. Quote
JST Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 bond it on then use some filler around the edges and use a pencil end to dab the filler to make it look like weld and paint over..... well that would be one way of doing it Quote
Mo Murphy Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 OK, cut out the middle man, change the bulkhead for the new one before the Mot ? Mo Quote
philbert Posted October 29, 2007 Author Posted October 29, 2007 would if i could but the mot is up! Quote
