disco-v8 Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 ok enough is enough, i think ive made my mind up, i think its time the V8 disapered from engine bay and replace it with a 300TDI i love my V8 but i also love playing in water, and after all the things ive done to try and water proof it, just has fully worked, it will work for a while and then it will start splutering!!!! plus its got an electrical problem at the mo which makes it idle irratic and takes agies to settle, and one of the biggest problems with my V8 is the fuel comsuption........ put £20 in on sunday went to a play day and got 13miles out of it before it was empty which i think works out at 0.33 MPG yep defo time to get a diesel ok first off my disco is a late L reg 300 series 3.9 V8 auto (zf4 hp22) and i want to convert it to an early 300TDI to match it to the year of my truck.... i am quite mechanicaly minded and shouldnt have any problems in the conversion, ive rebuilt axles diffs engines etc so shouldnt be a problem for me, its just id like to no whats involved in the conversion???? ive been told that ive got to move the engine mounts but in what way have i got to do this???? will the 300TDI but up to my auto box or will i have moddify it to fit???? exsept for the obverse radiator and intercooler what else have i got to change???? basicaly every little bit of info will help me loads thanks for anyone who replys ad Quote

geoffbeaumont Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Megasquirt it, it will be easier and cheaper. Then consider LPG. It won't be cheaper by the time it's been LPG'd, and if it's not it's still going to be expensive to feed... Plus if it really is doing 0.33mpg there's something seriously wrong with it... Even with a misfire and blown head gaskets, on LPG, I never got any worse than 8mpg! It'll always lack a certain something* with a diseasel under the bonnet, though * - Okay, several somethings. Power, torque, a pleasing sound... Quote
