leeds Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 On the 1996 110 the rear drive flanges and half shafts were replaced in 2006 at 130,000 miles. Now at 160,000 miles there is evidence of play in the drive flanges. I was told that since drive flanges are now after market rather then OEM the suspicion is that the after market drive flanges may not be made to the same specifications as OEM. Any comments folks? white90 Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 get some from ashcrofts they sell far better quality replacement ones Quote
leeds Posted November 2, 2007 Author Posted November 2, 2007 get some from ashcroftsthey sell far better quality replacement ones Am thinking of getting some heavier duty ones. What I dont understand is Ashcroft charges £85 per pair and Padocks charge £29 a pair. A big difference in price! Are Ashcrofts three times better then Paddocks? Or are they made by the same manufacturers and both Ashcroft and Paddocks but markedly different prices? Regards Leeds Quote
white90 Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 I'd suggest ashcrofts are better steel where as paddocks will be coloured steel Quote
Guest diesel_jim Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 I suspect that Paddocks ones are made by cadburys... ..... hmmm... fruit & nut flanges...... Quote
leeds Posted November 2, 2007 Author Posted November 2, 2007 I suspect that Paddocks ones are made by cadburys........ hmmm... fruit & nut flanges...... I love fruit and nut BUT not as drive flanges Think it might be Ashcrofts then. Thanks all Regards Leeds Quote
Mark90 Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 Do you have the seal fitted that keep the splines from being fed oil? Quote
leeds Posted November 2, 2007 Author Posted November 2, 2007 Do you have the seal fitted that keep the splines from being fed oil? Wil say pass to that. When rubber cap is removed there is a small amount of oil there, so I guess not. Regards Leeds Quote
Mark90 Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 Must just be cadburys flanges then. Dry splines will wear out much quicker. Quote
JimAttrill Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 This is the cheapest and best option: Quote
Milemarker Type S Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 I've been using paddock ones on the front end of my 90 for some time now- back ones on order at the moment- with no problems. Took them off recently and found no signs of any wear etc in the splines- At £34 they get my vote... The big nut on the end also saves on oil leaking out as on the original rubber caps. Shrek Quote
