Loving my Freelander 1.8 and just got back from the South of France and no problems..except having to refill the petrol tank occasionally....I saw a Freelander petrol with a twin pipe exhaust box over there on a brit plate and wondered if you could point me in the right direction for buying one of these...or has anyone got one second hand they want to sell on...cash waiting.

Never mind the exhaust box, the best advice is to get rid of your 1.8 and get a TD4 before your head gasket goes. 1.8s are prone to failure, it happened to me and to several others that I know. By comparison TD4s are superb. Incidentally have a look at this US website about freelander problems (most are petrol over there) http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.eea90db/992.

Sound Advice but!!!! My car had the head gasket and the upgrades done in may this year at Land Rover and they have guaranteed the work for 12 months, so far no problems....one thing about my cars is that I am fastidious about maintainance and levels etc so I will be keeping an eye on everything...and on a lighter note my brother has had a 1.8 petrol from new on an S plate and now with 140,000 miles on the clock has never had a problem with the engine...so there are some good ones out there.
