Ben Spray Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Hi All.. Some of you were probably following my thread and know that I have just converted my ex MOD 90 to PAS and 200tdi power. However I seem to be having a few teething problems (hope thats what they are!!) with the PAS. It seemed fine to start with but I now have 2 problems. Firstly at full lock the PAS pump seems to stall and the belt just squeeks and jumps on the pulley. Ive bled the PAS box a few times now but doesnt seem to have helped? second problem seems to come at around 50mph when I get a huge amount of steering wheel vibration / wobble ie enough that I have to slow down through fear of it shaking to pieces! Any ideas? on the plus side teh TDi seems to be good - if only I could properly test it! Cheers Quote
V8 Freak Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Wobble at 50 sounds like Panhard Rod bushes worn. Happend to me twice last year and you can't hold it... You have to slow down. I could see mine was clearly worn by laying under the front of the car looking at the respective bushes while someone else wiggled / rocked the steering wheel. I could see clear movement between car and bushes.... Can't help with the PAS problem.... You'll have to wait for a grown-up to come along and help there.... neil Quote
FridgeFreezer Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 For the squealing, is the belt tight enough? I had to tension mine quite a bit to stop it squealing on full lock. You should hear it load up and then the pressure relief valve will hiss when you hit full lock. Quote
Ben Spray Posted November 5, 2007 Author Posted November 5, 2007 Thanks I will give the bushes a look, thinking about it there was a very small amount of wobble before fitting the PAS, but afterwards it became a LOT worse - like you say you cant hold it and have to slow down. Ben Spray Posted November 5, 2007 Author Posted November 5, 2007 Ok thanks I will give that a look, where is the pressure relief valve? mine seems to load up and then the PAS pump stops! like you say I guess that could just be that the belt is too loose or could be some other problem? I did try and see if there was air in the system by running a pipe from the bleed on the PAS box back to the reservoir so that the fluid would just trickle back into the top of the reservior while I turned the wheel to the locks, the fluid seemed to squirt through on one lock (right hand down) but then stop flowing totally on left hand down lock, didnt seem to be any air on either lock so that idea went out of the window. I did the thing of idleing it at center for a while again too and no air came out there either Cheers For the squealing, is the belt tight enough?
