EdF Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 I'm having one of those VERY big birthdays next year and I've been thinking of doing something Landyish which would sort of define me - probably as an idiot. Europe north to south, or Norways North Cape to Gibraltar, taking in the crinkly bits in between, the Fjords and Alps in particular and maybe doing it for charity. Being retired, I have the time and I wouldn't be in a rush.. Has anyone on the forum knowledge of the North Cape and can tell me when the road is navigable and any other useful info? If anyone is vaguely interested, the distance direct is about 3500 miles, but I wouldn't be taking the direct route.. Quote
Guest diesel_jim Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 I know Gibraltar fairly well, and the Spanish coast westwards down to Tarifa. can't help you with the rest though. Quote
ThreeSheds Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 North Cape? Nordcap? Navigable? - there looks to be a surfaced road upto a rather large building there: Maps.Google Looks to be an amazing place... Think I'll start saving for when I retire Quote
Sufil Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Hi In 2003 I did the Cape to cape Challenge, which is a NON- STOP drive taking the shortest route from Nordkapp (North cape ) to Tarifa ( bit Further south than Gib) We did the 3500 mls in 64hrs 40mins. in a bog standard 1995 300 tdi Discovery. We did this in Mid-summer, Norway and Sweden had 24hrs of daylight, all the roads that we used were great. The scenery was amazing, one thing that most sticks in my memory was my other half standing on a large patch of snow at midnight wearing sunglasses B) The only road that gave us any problems at all was the only road up to Nordkapp from Honningsvag wich was narrow very graveley and very twisty, we had to negociate this at a constant 30mph in order to achieve our maximum speed throughout the event (without breaking any speed limits) Can wholeheartedly recomend the whole drive ,would do it again. Incidentally we raised £6000 for Riding for the Disabled and won the 4x4 class and the mixed team Class. Sue Quote
