Martin90
Hi there, Seen quite a few vehicles with K&N and the like cone air filters on top of their snorkels, how do these filters cope with getting wet and is this recomended (assuming there is not another air filter under the bonnet). I'm having difficulty locating a filter box under my 90's bonnet now that I've put the Mazda lump in and I have a nice shiny Ramair foam cone filter lying around in the shed. Could I just put this on the top of the snorkel and link the snorkel straight up to the turbo or shall I wedge in the disco 200Tdi filter box I bought off ebay and be creative with bracketry and quite a bit of hose? Thanks, Martin
Les Henson
Normally the cone filter is the only filter in the system - you don't really need two unless you are driving in very dusty conditions. Some people believe that free-flow filters are not a good thing to have. I personally would have a filter under the bonnet and a normal snorkel top outside. Les. Just don't get me started on my favourite soap-box. I agree with Les. Best is a paper filter and a snorkel, preferably a Mantec or whatever which takes out some of the dust. Best is a Donaldson spinning top which takes out 98% of the dust. Then you never have to change your filter.
Martin90
Thanks guys, I wasn't looking at fitting both , it was one or t'other and it sounds like i'll be better off with the proper filter wedged under the bonet somewhere and leave the mushroom on the snorkel. Thanks again! Martin
