brakes advice please

sometimes my brakes are perfect nice firm pedal then thay go spongy but will still stop ok i have changed brake fluid thinking maybe fluid was off this has made no difference im thinking maybe master cylinder no leaks anywhere and all calipers are dry vehicle is a n plate non abs discovery any thoughts before i fork out for a cylinder thanks chris

Non return valve on the vaccuum pipe-to-servo playing up perhaps?

Bit of sponge stuck to the brake pedal

Bit of sponge stuck to your right shoe sole

You get sporadic weakness in your right foot

You press the clutch pedal by mistake

I'd just check the first one if I was you :D

Play in the wheel bearings can cause this

well jim i changed the wheel bearings last week 27th anyway after reading your post i thought i had better check and yes one side had play anyway tightened it up with my lge grips fitted a new tab washer etc and hay brakes are as good as new ill strip it down in the next couple of days to make sure it aint chewed anything up thanks for the advice jim i was ready to replace master cylinder .chris
