auf_wiedersehen_pet
Hi all I need to bend a small piece of 3mm steel plate back to flat again. I've got vague recollections about O level metal work back in the early 80's and can remember phrases such as annealing, work hardening, tempering, quenching, etc. I seem to remember they are all heat related but not sure which applies to me. The plate in question has already been bent cold (accidentally) by 90 degrees and needs to return to flat again without weakening or cracking it. I have access to a heat source, vice and BB hammer. Thanks in advance.
disco tony
Heat to cherry red and allow to cool in air, that should "normalise" it, ie, should bend back without too much bother.
Phil Hancock
Better still bend it while it is still red hot then allow to cool slowly.
