Brake shoes

You can take the whole brake backplate/shoe assembly off as a single item and then do the job on the bench (take the opportunity to clean and re-grease the expander unit and adjuster.

I do the opposite to Ralph - hook the shoes on the springs, locate the top one, then pull down and fit the lower one. This is easier to do if the drive flange is out of the way.
