Guest wunntenn
Time for renewing my 110's fuel tank, and wanting to install something that's not prone to rust so's I can forget it for a good few years. Whats the best at resisting corrosion? Checked the archives and didnt find anything. Stainless? (expensive) Alloy? (also expensive). What about galvanized ones? (are they available and cheaper?) Sources? Or...is it just as useful to get a normal tank and give it several coats of galvafroid and top it off with waxoyl black underseal? western
I fitted this one 110 fuel tank last year, gave it 3 or good coats of galvafriod paint before fitting.
jacks906
dont think that these tanks are galvd because the galv react an the galv gets into the fuel an lines etc i'd do as western's done an treat the outside heavy, inside doesnt rot because of the deseil in there dave
FridgeFreezer
If you get a quote for an Allisport tank, make sure you're sitting down with a stiff drink to hand. Beautiful work, but HOW much? Cover it in paint and don't leave it under a land rover for 20 years without checking every so often for damage to the coating. Guest wunntenn
I'd seen that thread Western, but wondered if there was any other info as there was some uncertainty over what it was you'd got exactly! Thanks anyway, I'll sit down with a stiff one (drink that is!).
Paddy_SP
Does anyone know of stainless tank suppliers? If not, how about high-density Nylon, or something similar? My tank also has a leak, and I'd like to make sure that whatever I replace it with cannot rust, whatever happens.
FridgeFreezer
Plastic boat tanks are available in standard sizes, you may be able to tuck one of those in somewhere.
Stevie D
How much work is involved in retrofitting the plastic td5 one from a 110? Considering this myself as I prepare to change the rear x member in a few weeks, and not sure what I'll find lurking in there Steve

jacks906
personally am not sure but i bet fitting the tank to chassis is easy enough with abit of welding but were you fit the filler point may be the hard bit dave
The Badger
I got me an extra tank for my 90 made up by Safari-Equip out of Aluminum http://safari-equip.co.uk/index.php?page=4 Had it double skinner so I don't have to add a guard (in theory), I guess this will not rust and 'should' last for a long time... I am sure you could get one for the 110, I bet you could even get one made bespoke to give you more fuel storage if you wanted, might cost a bit more than a plastic tank though? Guest wunntenn
Thanks Badger. A bit of an investment for them though!
