ProjectJay
I have noted that several has installed Procomp shocks on Discovery 1. Which ones did you install and how much do they dislocate if any? (with which springs) http://members.shaw.ca/red90/shockinfo.html#Procomp
sternyboy
Hello mate, mine are pro-comp ES9000 +2" shocks with britpart +2" HD springs. They seam to do me OK and I have done a fair bit of greenlaning and some off-roading on them. I don't have dislo cones and haven't had any problems, yet! Going to be getting some and fitting them soon though
plasticbadger
I have the same set up as Sternyboy with the addition of 1 1/2" spacers under the rear springs. The lift was very cheap from Paddocks. However in challenge comp use I have dislocated and got the springs stuck out of thier seats loads on the front. The spacers stop the rear dislocating too much. So cones front and rear recommended for real heavy use. Also I have damaged the front right shock on the chassis as the axle moves left in travel - has anybody else noticed this? Also trim the extra length off the threads on the bottom of the front shocks or they can break on the axle.
Rodewaryer
Are these shocks ok if one wants to retain the standard ride height? I'm looking for new shocks and want them to be of better quality.....
moose
Are these shocks ok if one wants to retain the standard ride height? I'm looking for new shocks and want them to be of better quality..... different springs affect the height not the shocks.. but if you are using standard height springs use the standard height shocks etc... Rodewaryer
Like the idiot I am at times I didn't ask the question right. I was concerned if these Procomp's were available for stock ride height or not. Sorry, didn't mean to make it sound like it did. So how much of an improvement are these over the factory ones? joanh1
hi jay have you found out what type of shockers are the best because im building a hybrid with lowering springs and im just holding back on what type of shocks i need. i just wondered if you had any idea what good or to avoid. thanks for your time Jonah

Procomp make a range of universal dampers and then weld on either pins or eyes on the ends to suit the application. see the last page of this PDF http://www.explorerprocomp.com/PDFs/07cat/72-91.pdf Using the chart you can spec a procomp near enough any length/combination of ends to suit the application, though not they are not designed specifically nto suit land rovers. The procomp dampers that are near enough standard LR size (for RRC, dsico 1 and defender) are 921560 front and 921573 rear.

There prob not Pro Comps are cheap n cheerfull, good VFM, and IMHO soft on both rebound and Compression damping. For the price they are good vlaue, but I have killed mine twice now, the chrome shaft dent easily, but again for the money rather kill a cheap shock that an expensive one. DECENT shocks I would recomend Old Man EMUs or DeCarbons, more money far better kit sold my decarbons to mark (mod on LR4x4) and he loves them There is no such thing as a really good cheap shock, its just a cheap shock I did have +5 Procomps all around with loads of mods to get them to fukll open up etc, but the rears were too soft (I have soft springs which compounds the problem) now have OME N73s +5 and they are Hugely firmer damping on my 90 - but still allows soft sprinmgs to fully flex. freeagent
I've got monroe adventure 4x4 standard length shocks.. work out just over £100 for a set of 4 from Paddocks and i'm well pleased with them... fairly stiff without being too harsh... ProjectJay
hi jay have you found out what type of shockers are the best because im building a hybrid with lowering springs and im just holding back on what type of shocks i need. i just wondered if you had any idea what good or to avoid. thanks for your time Jonah I have used the ProComp now for about 6 months. So far I am happy. They give me the correct travel I required (installed 2" longer springs) As for the performance of the shock I can not say if they are harder or softer. (the different spring performance overshadows the difference in shock performance) Also do not know how to measure/know if the combination of spring and shock is the right one.
