The Accidental Discovery Driver...

Well I bought a accident damaged 300Tdi off a friend for an engine to go in my series.

But when i saw it I just fell in love, there is so little work needed i'd be a fool to break it, plus its got every little add on possible.

Its a Catagory D vehicle, so hopefully getting back on the road won't be too difficult

A few problems...

1) The electric seat on the drivers side doesnt go backwards/forwards, I've had the switch panel out and checked the connections all connected up ok and no corrosion preventing a good circuit. Any Ideas?

2) Reverse Lights not working (either of them) checked bulbs... not them. *by the way how small did landrover think peoples hands are on AC fitted Discoverys??? its almost impossible to get into the light unit on the passengers side. Where is the switch on the gearbox, will I need to take tunnel out to get to it?

3) Ditto Rear Foglights... not even getting a back light on the switch when I push it.

4) How do I put a Cat D vehicle back on the road after its been repaired

Thanks very much,

Seat switch take it out of car and onto bench take it apart be careful full of springs and ball bearings that go everywhere, clean all contacts and refit it and all should be okay mine used to need this every 6 mths or so.

My last 300 was a cat D, do a google for vosa the goverment testing people that control mots trucks etc.

For cat C or D, you don't have to do anything although it is recommended that you put it through another MOT to check it's road-worthyness

At least that was the deal in 2003 when I had to go through the process.

Cat A and B are different, as they are proper write off's as the damage is too bad to safely repair, but Cat C and D are just cosmetic damage where it's uneconomical for the insurance company to repair. If they repair they may have to pay for all new panels on the damaged area plus a curtsey car for the time it takes to repair etc etc so they just pay out a cheque ASAP.

If you didn't get the V5 you just have to apply for that

Hmmm, my mother phoned DVLA today whilst I was at work, they told her that I need to apply for a v5c as the vehicle will require reregistering and then booking in for a VIC test (vehicle identity check) to confirm it is not a stolen vehicle passed off as a repaired written off vehicle.

That front end is straighter than mine, As has been said cat c and d so long as you have the V5 you can just get them MOT's and away you go. Nice set of late disco headlights and a quick clean. Check no fuses have been borrowed for the lights that don't work.
