FridgeFreezer
Tony - how would spade connectors help with "pole" (stud) connections? You may need to upgrade your main feed wire (it'll be the thick brown one) to handle the extra current.
Gromit
on the A127 I've just put in: The 2 large spade connectors are the same as B+, the main feed. The smaller spade connector is D+, charge warning light, brown wire with yellow tracer. W is the rev counter.
LandyManLuke
Suitable size spade/ring crimp terminals to suit. You will need to upgrade the alternator output wiring from the alternator to the starter.

Thanks for info It is a 2.5 N/A 1985 defender at the momment it is a spade conection two brown and one yellow/brown charging light I think. What I am going to do is cut and crimp the two brown wires to a ring conector for a pole connection and same for other wire. the loom looks very dodgey around the engine can this be tided up some how, I read i should change brown wires to heavier one. can someone help. p.s. it's just for more lights front and roof, but also just to upgrade thought this would be better than 45amp thanks again

FridgeFreezer
hi when you say upgrade wiring what do you mean . Do I change it to a heaviery gauge and from where to where just the two brown wires You will need to replace the big brown wire (which will probably be going to the big terminal on the alternator) with one that's at least 8-10mmsq. Checking VWP's catalogue they stop doing standard thinwall cable at 6mm2 (50 Amps) and start doing battery cable at 16mm2 (110A) so I'd be going for some 16mm2 battery cable, then you will have a good safety factor, lower resistance, and if you decide to bolt on even more lights you won't need to replace it if you fit a bigger alt. The cable usually runs to the live terminal on the starter solenoid, or straight to the battery + terminal.

Thanks for your help I have checked and it looks like i have two brown cables I think about 4/6sqm from terminal to solinoid and also two going towards bulkhead somewhere were battery cable comes in from under seat.if i get one 16sqm cable do i run this from the terminal to solinoid and solinoid to battery all in 16sqm cable instead of the two smallier cables thanks again
