storm99
When i drive over those lovely speed humps scattered randomly across the country there comes a horrendous scrape from the underside of my 90. It was MOT'd this week and no problems and i've looked high and low, the only thing i noticed, and the mot bloke didn't, are that 2 of the rubber chassis bump stops are missing, 1 front, 1 rear. Could this explain the noise? I notice that in normal driving when i accelerate/decelerate sharply (as sharply as a landy can) there is what can best be described as a hollow thumping noise. Do these rubber stops come so easily into contact with the chassis?
alantd
I doubt you'll be hitting the bump stops going over speed bumps (depending on what speed you hit them ) If you did hit put the axle in contact with the chassis, you'd hear a rather alarming *bang* rather than a scrape. What year is your 90? Is it possible that your springs need replacing?

Its a 1987, 146k miles, springs look ok...as i sais it was MOT'd this week and they did have a thorough look and poke about and found nothing..one of those times where i wish they had, saying that maybe its something simple. It still drives fine and sits well, small lumps, manholes etc not a problem, just speedbumps and when i pull away quickly (laughs loudly). I'm clueless.... western
It should have failed the MOT with 2 bumpstops missing, check the axle to chassis bushes for excess movement & the exhaust for rubbing around the rear chassis, bumpstop ARE bolted to the chassis, doubt they would be touching the axle on speed humps.
