Door stuck!

Recommended Posts

Can anyone help me? The N/S passenger door on my 110 has decided to lock itself! The interior safety lock appears to be working but I've tried the inside and outside handles but it just isn't playing.

Any ideas?

Mine did this a while ago and the only way I could sort it was to ease the inner door trim off (which is not easy) and get to the mechanism that way. It turned out to be the lock button binding up on the button surround that caused the problem, plus the linkage was dry and worn so a squirt with WD40 helped. If you've got the square type button then you may be able to just take the button surround off and get to it that way.

What age of vehicle?

I had the same problem. You can just about fight with the door card and get it off with the door closed and have a gander.

My lock was full of rust and completely jammed. Ended up taking a hammer and cold chisel to the rear of the lock open the door.

1990.

It seems pretty tight in there with the rear seats! Does the door card pull off?

Well on mine, it's held on with those press clips.

Remove the 2 screws through the handle.

Remove the trim around the lock button

Remove the bolt through the window winder.

Then, starting at the bottom, price the card away from the door, then lift it off the top.

I replaced my doors a few weeks ago; the pictures in this thread might help:

I hope I am not too late. I had a similar problem with the driver's door on my 90. It turned out that the button on the outside handle was partly pressed in - or rather the mechanism behind it was in that position. As it turns out, if the button on the outside handle or if the inner handle is in the 'open' position, the door latching mechanism will not unlock. You need to be sure that everything is free and in it's correct 'rest' position before unlocking in the usual way.
