upnover4x4
Hi All, Looking for guidance on my current roll cage. I have a bettaweld full hard top cage which I have modified to fit a 3/4 king cab. The tube used is 39.94mm dia & appears to have a seam but only on the inside.Theres no bs mark evident. Because I have modified the cage for the king cab I am unsure of how to resecure to the rear chassis rails & with what material. Have looked at the ALRC criteria & rear hoop on a hardtop doesnt list in their criteria. I am looking to compete in the challenge southwest events so would this cage be suffice for this event or does it need to meet any requirements. Looking at the cgae requirents they list & am not required to have a cage with a hard top but would the vehicle fail scrutineering if this cage is fitted. Many thanks Adrian
white90
You'll be fine in the CSW events with your cage as is there is a post in the tools section on cages near the top. seamed tube is ok to, BS1387 heavy is what mine is made of. nearly any cage is better than none(except a death trap made by a lunatic)
Milemarker Type S
For CSW and indeed 4X4adventures challenges there are no cage requirements at all as long as you have a standard hardtop fitted to manufacturers spec. If you have a cage fitted then you exceed these requirements regardless of tube/ cage spec. Look forward to seening you then!! When are you thinking of joining us? upnover4x4
Not sure yet. Still have that elusive never ending list of jobs to get finished but hopefully within the next few months. Adrian
Roverdrive
When you say a dia of about 40mm, is that internal or external? Just aside from the fitting of the hard top, I am fairly sure that ALRC regs call for a min dia of 50mm external for cage tube. If the regs only require a hard top, then you should be ok regardless. Make sure all the bolts are fitted though!
upnover4x4
tube thickness is 40mm o/d. Ive had doubts that it would comply to certain club requirements!!! Looks like it might be a new cage in the near future. Another job for the list! As I said its a bettaweld cage who no longer trade & it would seem that every other cage manufacturer is now using at least 50mm. Qt is just up the road from me so will have a chat with Dave to view his thoughts.
