Recommended Posts

hi all. i was just wondering if you could answer a quick question. i have been offered a set of 110 springs and shocks out of a td5 110. will these fit my 1991 110..... my rear springs are very tired and these would let me off for a few months until things have settled here..... ;)

Yes they will, though it is best to use the rear shock lower bushes and dished washers from the rear of your 110 (or new replacements) as the TD5 ones differ slightly because the rear axle on a Td5 has bush 'cups' fixed to the rear axle. All other mounts etc are the same.

Best bet is to chisel the cups off the axle bracket and use the old-style washers and bushes, they last a darned sight longer!

Also the pin on the shock is a different length so you can't use old type bushes/washers with new type shocks or vice versa. If you chisel the cups off the hole in the axle bracket is the right size so no problems there :)

Hi Stephen,

I have had Td5 rear shocks on my earlier 1985 110 for a number of years with no problems using the old style bushes and dished washers. The pin is slightly longer, but, if necessary, it is easy to add a small piece of tube to the pin first or add some washers to the pin before fitting to ensure the bushes are not left sloppy, or possibly use the Td5 lower bushes if they are deeper, with the older spec washers.

The axle cups aren't fitted to denviks 1991 110 or my earlier 110 so there is nothing to chisel off ;)

I still maintain there is no problem and a good budget solution to replacement springs and shocks for denviks. I prefer the Td5 110 spec oil shocks to the original 110 oil shocks because the valving is different and in my opinion gives a slightly better ride.

You can also use earlier 110 spec rear shocks on a Td5 110 rear axle if you take the cups off the lower rear shock mounts on the axle. :)

Regards,

Diff
