jules
Clicking noise is CV's but a clunk from what sounds like the floor is one of the three diff bushes needs replacing very common about 60-100k miles or it could be a front wich bone ball joint. Three things to look at first

Blippie
Yeah, the number of people on various forms who have come along saying "I think my IRD is on the way out" only to find it is the £20 rear diff mount. For the newbies: Cheers Blippie
nedkelly
We just had one of these, after many hours of head scratching it turned out to be one of the captive threads that the rear suframe is bolted to the body had cracked the chassis rail. Not easy to see unless you dangle the car on a 2 post ramp and undo the subframe bolts an inch or two to get a better look above the subframe. Hope this helps
AD90
I had a similar issue on our 1999 2.0Xdi. It went back to the main dealer who failed to identify that the spot welds on the OSR chassis rail had failed. This allowed some movement. i.e. when reversing on right hand lock the driving action of the wheel tried to pull the chassis apart and it popped back when going forward. I seam welded the chassis and the problem was solved.
s crane
Had this on mine it was the rear sub frame, undo one side of the sub frame bolts pull sub frame down and you will see a spike looking bit which is a locator for sub frame .I cleaned the rust off and put grease on the locator, then did the opposite side of the sub frame, no more noise happy days
