The Badger
Looking for a 4 pin relay to stop the quick blinking on the indicators. Swapped out all the lights to LED's and need a relay. The one from here: www.mobilecentre.co.uk is sold out... Also need to sort the rear tail lights / break lights as when I put the LED in it does not work with the middle wire attached, so the Earth is good and the Live. And If i wore them up without the middle wire the break lights don't. How could I fix this and still keep the LED, do I switch the Red and the Middle wire round? mmgemini
Relay from www.ultraleds.co.uk Lights are a bit harder. What car ? What type of light. Early type or later type with full plastic bulb holder ? mike

Yes I had to sort my lights out when I changed to LED's. However the latest "tower" bulbs are not affected by polarity. mike Try was Lord Mayor of London. Can't died in the workhouse. The Badger
problem is, when I put the LED into the bayonet it does not work. If I take the middle connection out, it does work? (as side lights only) But then of course the break light does not? If the polarity is not a problem I don't understand
western
normal brake/tail light bulbs have 2 contacts on the end & the earth on the side by the glass part, maybe the leds are done differently & not connecting properly.
The Badger
yeah thought that, but they are the same as the normal bulbs.
mmgemini
Nothing wrong with LED bulbs. Is it only me that's prepared to try things out. As you haven't told me which light units are fitted I'm going to have to guess that they are the full plastic type, are they ? So take a look at these http://wwww.vehicle-wiring-products.co.uk/...otos2/01253.jpg They are the connectors that should be fitted to the lights. You have to remove the light coloured piece, then each cable in turn from the holder. Now as your Defender is a Ford product again I cannot tell you the wiring code colours unless they are still using the Lucas colours. Lucas colours. Balck earth. Red tail. Green stop. So get a test lamp. And identify the earth wire. By trying that wire in each terminal until that is the place where, with your test light, you can by using a live feed get the test light to light up when you touch the outer metal on the inside of the connector. Now fit your old bulb. Using the same live wire, touch either of the other terminals until yoiu get the side light to work. Connect and try it. Now connect the other wire. The brake light should work. Now try it through the normal switch/brake pedal. Correct is it?. Now you should be able to get the LED lamp to work. Don't blame Ultraleds. Blame Land Rover for not following normal electrical convention. My LED are the same as normal bulbs. HTH Hope you can understand that. It's the best way I can describe things. I would suggest that before you take the terminls out. You mark their original position on the bulb holder. mike Try was Lord Mayor of London. Can't died in the workhouse. The Badger
Thanks mike not blaming anyone, just trying to find out how to sort it out as i am also prepared to go the extra mile. The new LEDS are soooo much brighter and a fraction of the power. Make allot of sense to fit them. You are correct on the connector and the wiring setup, I don't know the codes either but they are: Black = negative Green (drivers side) / Green hint (other) = Stop Red = Live will have a look at this today. cheers

Let me know if you hit problems and I'll try to help. My LED's are the original type. They've been in since 2005. Not had any problems so far, apart fron the polarity problem. I have some of the "yower" LED's. You can fit those either way. Funny isn't it. mike Try was Lord Mayor of London. Can't died in the workhouse. mmgemini
Well, well, well I've just tried to place a 50 plus quid order with Ultraleds over the 'phone. They do not take any orders over the phone and I can't get the on line system to work. What hurts me more is I've been using this company since they first started. Customer valuation seems nil these days. So any other companies I can go to. ? mike Try was Lord Mayor of London. Can't died in the workhouse. David Sparkes
mmgemini Other companies you can go to --- for LED light units, or LED bulb replacements to fit inside standard light units? I collected some information from a thread asking about NAS style lights and plinths, were you active in that? http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=22745
mmgemini
No David I wasn't. Actually I was going to try two of Ultraleds 240 volt house lights as I keep some lights on all night for security. I'm still wondering... mike Try was Lord Mayor of London. Can't died in the workhouse.

On the rear side lights, so I tried swapping arround the connections and this (380/1157 4w Ultimate Red Stop And Tail Bulb 4W) led does not work when breaking, but will for the side lights. Does not make sense at all as the below LED does work. But this one does work for side lights / breaking (U38020R Ultra Tower 380 S&T WA Red New High Bright Ver) need to call ultra and find out what the difference is, if any..
