Techie bolt question

I'm building a 110 from the ground-up - as I can't bear to see my toys rot away, I've gone rather overboard with rust prevention, etc. For a start, I'm using a new galvanised chassis and stainless fasteners wherever possible.

Since I've laid out a lot of cash on stainless brake caliper pistons, I'd like to replace the bolts which hold the two sides of the calipers together, as the originals are now in a nasty state. I'm reasonably well up on my bolts, but the only markings on the heads are 'ATLAS V' - can anyone here tell me what this refers to? The axle flange bolts have 'ATLAS 12.9' written on them, which tells me they're grade 12.9s, so I was wondering if the 'V' simply means they're grade 5?

As ever, any help would be much appreciated! :)

Electrolytic corrosion.

Stainless isn't neccesarilly best when mixed with other metals.

Why not use galvanised bolts and nuts?

Many thanks for your comment, but I've never had a problem with electrolytic corrosion in all the years I've been using stainless bolts.

Metric bolts have a spec of the form 8.8 12.9 &c stamped on them, imperial have letters. From memory, R is stamped on BSF HT, T on UNF equivalent to 8.8 and higher letters, indicate stronger & stronger. V is very strong, the sort you'd use for flywheels &c.

Treat unstamped stainless bolts as weaker than 8.8

Many thanks for the info! I have some candidate bolts being sent to me - they're described as 'forged items', so I will have to wait and see what grade they are when they arrive. Any doubts, and I'll not use them.
