CB install P38

Finally got round to doing it last night.

Not really much installation required as I had thought about it and planned ahead a bit.

Previously I had always hardwired my CB's into the vehicles like the stereo.

However due to a lack of a suitable place in the P38 I chose a slightly different approach.

I purchased THIS CB, so doesn't have to permanantly be fitted.

Another advantage is I can take it out of the car if guiding someone through a

tricky section and have better communication. Also 'out of sight out of mind' when not in use.

Fitting the mount for the arial, also took some thought. I eventually went for

this one 'side mount', 2nd down. Fitting was straight forward and I fitted it

on the rear plastic panel. This simply pulled off after removing the 3 screws.

Behind this is a plastic plug that fills a hole through to the interior via the bodyshell

structure. I replaced this with a similar sized rubber grommet. The antenna mount

was wired up, but I had to add an extra earth wire to go through the same grommet

and fix to a suitable point in the interior. Then all that was left was pulling

the wire forward (approx 7.5m cable) to the centre console. I didn't quite get finished but will pull it

through the ashtray after making a suitable hole. This means that I can keep the

connector and about 10-15cm of cable out of site when not in use.

The only drawbackis that the mount follows the angle of the sidepanel so the arial

doesn't point straight up. I may trim the mount to adjust the angle later, to make it

look a bit better when the antenna is installed.

Some pictures.

One thing I forgot to mention is the mounting points on the antennamount need to be trimmed slightly. Not too much, though.
