stevedavis
hi all, sorry if this has been covered already. im new to the forum. i have a 1995/6 N-reg 300tdi discovery that has starting problems. i believe the fault lies with the spider unit. a while back the thing wouldnt turn over so i ran another wire from starter solenoid to the keyswitch start position. cured that problem i thought. then a week or two later the egine would turn over but not fire. traced this to no power at the stop solenoid so i ran wire from the battery through a fuse and switch to the solenoid on a piggyback terminal. on bad days when it wouldnt start i simply turned the switch on. ran fine like this for months but today i got stuck at my local filling station. i shut off engine, took out keys but didnt lock the door. when i returned it wouldnt turn over again. i tried locking and unlocking the doors but the keyfob wouldnt work. i replaced the battery in the keyfob but still no joy. a small red round light was flashing and also a red keyshaped light. i shorted the starter terminals and drove home. i shut it off and tried it again. working perfect again and the keyfob was locking/unlocking again. however later in the day it let me down again. same as earlier, not turning over again and unable to lock the car on the keyfob and the same two lights flashing. several hours passed and it still wouldnt go so like a fool i locked it using the key. now when i unlock the car with the key and open the door the alarm sounds and i cannot stop it. ive tried pressing the buttons on the keyfob 4 times as suggested in other threads and ive even dug out my handbook for the 4 digit code to enter via the key in the drivers doorlock but still the alarm sounds. how do i turn this f**king alarm off? neighbours are starting to get annoyed now as ive been trying to get in and sort it all afternoon!!! does the spider control the alarm as well or do i have two separate problems at the same time? anybody had this? any help would be appreciated before i do something silly!!! my ears are still ringing!!! BogMonster
You have 2 separate problems - the spider unit has nothing to do with whether the alarm is armed or not. disconnect the horn under the bonnet for diagnostic purposes (note that this won't work with a BBUS but I am told a bucket of water is quite effective )
