skid
Hello all, 2002 td5 defender 65k on clock engine rattle on tick over that goes if pick the revs up alittle. also when on the move and not putting engine under load ie like when easin on and off peddle at any speed you noticably hear this annoying rattle. pretty sure its not anything loose more to do with engine. other than that drives very nicely although does the kangaroo thing that seems to happen when peddle not sure how much your gonna press it... any ideas lads or lasses(in fact) cheers
JST
kangeroo thing - let the clutch up slowly from standstill without touching the accelerator, when the truck is moving then accerlerate. it kangaroos if you are intermittent on the accelerator as the anti stall comes on and off with each pedal press. When you say rattle - i take it its a different rattle to any other td5 at tickover? they do make a different noise those td5!

Mo Murphy
Perhaps it's something to do with having diesel in your oil (re your other post). Big ends need lubrication and if they are being washed clean by the diesel in your oil you could be looking at prematurely worn big ends Mo
pongo
Are you sure it's the engine? Could be the infamous dual-mass flywheel rattling away. Noisy at tickover, dissappears when driving. Rakeway do a replacement one-piece item.

Rakeway do a replacement one-piece item. Had not thought of that, could that be why when on the move and on and off accelerator(ie like junctions and hold ups in the traffic) it also occurs. Thinking bout it there is alot of vibration at 3/4 revvs when accerlrating up through each gear

Pongo, it says on there site that there one piece item could make tranmission rattle at idle... untill i read that your suggestion seemed to make sense because i've had 3stage upgrade and prob got about 190-200bhp.. Does anyone else have any ideas bout these dual mass versas single flywheels on uprated engines... Cheers
