white90
The top of the engine has a large sound deadening cover on it. There are three bolts holding it on - 13mm spanner or socket to remove them. Breather pipe next. It's held on by a spring clip, which can be removed with a pair of pliers or mole grips. Squeeze the legs in as far as you can and then slide the clip partway along the pipe. The pipe will be quite tight, so you may have to twist and then pull quite hard. The pipe is quite rigid, so be careful when tucking it out of the way as you might split it. On the bacl of the head is a small soud deadening panel which also has to be removed. There are two x 8mm bolts holding it in place. one is easy to get at, but the other is in the narrow gap between the head and the air box. There are 13 special bolts with seals that hold the cover on. The bolts will come out, but the seals may not. But as you are going to be turning the cover over, it's best to remove them - rather than them falling out. The gasket sits in a groove around the edge of the cover. Remove the seal and then clean the groove all the way round. I use brake and clutch cleaner to do this. Put the new gasket on - if it's a very loose fit and is likelt to fall out when you turn the cover back over - put a few blobs of RTV sealant every few inches to hold it in place. The curved sections of the seal are a bit of a weak spot, so I always put a small blob of sealant in each corner. Replace the cover - check that the seal is still in place and put the bolts/seals back in. When you reattach the breather pipe - make sure the clip is on it's side as shown, otherwise it will dig into the engine cover. Replace the cover and the job is complete. Les.
