Rockwell vs Simca Portal Axles

im doing a project at uni trying to design some bolt on portal axles, just getting my head in the game and learning what is already out there, does anyone know what truck these simca's are from?

Also called a Simca SUMB from the military reference.

Other portal axle vehicles to look at are:

Unimog (most types, but 404 and 416 are most common)

Volvo c303 / c306 or Laplander

Hummer

Pinzgauer

Also bolt on, aftermarket portals are being built by Killer Axles (for Landrover axles) and Axletech (Dana 60 and Corperate 14 bolt), Marks Adaptors (Nissan) and some used to be built by Maxidrive (Landrover and Nissan). I think there's another Austrailian company who build bolt on portals for Nissans.

It's worth studying the above as many of the factory original portals have only two gears in the drop box meaning that the axle must turn backwards compared to normal rotation. Bolt on portals tend to keep the axle running the correct way and therefore feature 3 or 4 gears to keep the rotation the same direction on the output as the input.
