Defenderman1980
Hey folks, this is my first post on here so this may be a stupid question, but i am away to have a look at a 2002 TD5 110 Defender tomorrow and i was wondering if you guys would know what to look for in this particular model with regards to faults etc? At the moment, my wife is running a 03 Freelander (1.8 petrol and yes, the head gasket has gone! ) but i need something a bit bigger so i think the 110 is the way to go. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Scotty.
Se7enUp
Ian (Porny) gave me the following advice about the TD5 engine: Things to check (engine wise) are.... Oil in the red plug at the ECU (injector loom as mentioned) Leaking fuel regulator (rear of the RHS of the engine block - just below the rear of the inlet manifold) Siezed turbo wastegate/actuator Incorrect ECU replacement Corroded radiator Check mill lamp works (should come one when you turn ignition on, then go out) Seized EGR (someone might sell a removal kit :rolleyes:lol ) Juddering clutch/odd noises at idle And if you have access to a diagnostic computer: If post 2002 check VIN number in ECU matches the vehicle VIN Check the Air Flow Meter works Have a look at cylinder compensation values Check boost pressure And look at any fault codes.
