reversed polarity on Alternator - P38 2001

Just had an urgent call from a mate in holidaying Northern NSW. His alternator died so he pulled out the brush set to find that the brushes were very short & sticking in their holder. Fixed that - temporarily - BUT.... when he reconnected everything back up he momentarily reversed the polarity & got a bit of an arc.

Everything seems to work except he can't reset the left front window and the drivers seat has lost it's memory.

His question is: Is he likely to have damaged the control module (computer) or is there some trick he can try to reset these?

The vehicle: P38 2001 4.6 HSE

Any help would be appreciated.
