Billing, what did people think?

Recommended Posts

Mm, and there was me thinking everyone was talking about Billing and the weekend we had, how much we enjoyed ourselves and if the effects of the weekend had worn off enough... Sorry, must remember, don't use the reply option to anyone I know on the forum... <_< Surely this is a 'chat about the weekend at Billing thread?' It's getting too scary to post on this forum without risks of being accused of going slightly OffT. I really hope this stops as it's ruining what I always thought of as a friendly forum :(

Anyway, this probably isn't the place for this so enough of a rant, back OT.

Well I was only able to spend the Sunday afternoon there unfortunately, which makes the on-the-door ticket price rather insane TBH, I managed to get what I wanted and more, so I am a very happy chap with a new TDS bolted to the front of the Rangie :)

I've only been to one LR show before, mainly because of the distances and only having a Lightweight to go in before, pretty sure it was the 2006 LRO show at the 3 counties showground(think that's what it is called) -the two compared very differently .... the arena at Billing was way too small in my opinion, 3 counties was a really nice size, allowed people to get some speed up and do donuts to wake the crows up, but the trade stands were SOOOOO much better at Billing, not that I got to see as much of it as I would have liked.

Echoing what was said above, it felt like it was pretty cramped.

Nice to go and see what it was all about, but having now been there I don't think I would go for a whole weekend.

Oh, and did anyone try using the map in the show booklet? Flippng useless, why the heck did they decide to list the exhibitors in order of the stand LOCATION(i.e. A1, A2, B1...)...? If you are looking for a particular place it makes it nigh on impossible to find them :angry2:

Anyways, had fun, spent some hard earned, and got back in one piece :)

I went on Friday. Thought it was OK but not the best I've been to. I havn't been for a few years and it seemed quite small. Were Simmonites and DLS (to name just 2) there and I missed them, or do they go somewhere else these days?

There didn't seem to be so many people selling new 'original' bits - I looked all over for a pair of 90 side repeaters but couldn't find any.

The layout was pants, I didn't get a show guide/catalogue when I paid so didn't realise there was one until I'd been there 3 hours.

One the good side, there were some very interesting 'side' stalls, and the car parks were something to behold. In fact I think that was the best bit!

Actually no it wasn't, the best bit was wanting a pair of wing top air intakes - and one big stand on a corner with all the silicone bits and landys with the intakes I was looking for had them for £80 - then i found exactly the same things at a very small stand - AB or something for just £45. They're already fitted :D

Nice to see LR putting on a show - and a ride in the new toys even, for just £3

Lovely to see the various club stands. I spent ages in the Military stand and don't even have a military vehicle! Well done guys

I also spent ages on the mud-something- stand who had the centre consoles and switches. Blimey they are good bits.

I bought a few bits but would have thought the £10 entrance was only just bearable if I hadn't been saving on postage by picking up my new drawer from mobilestoragesystems.

I hope the lady in the Disco on the hard shoulder of the M1 found her way back, after I stopped to help and found she was lost and looking for Billing - and had just driven past the exit she needed DOH!

That would be Mud UK. Kev Baldwin who runs the place is on here.

I managed to spend £140 there on a Mud Pod, a bunch of Carling switches and associated paraphernalia, and a stainless nut, bolt and screw set.

Good quality and innovative stuff. And Kev was a really nice chap to talk to when I visited a second time with FridgeFreezer.

Thank you gentleman for your kind words, and of course, your custom!

Simmonites and DLS and lots of other big outfits no longer go to Billing or any of the shows for one good reason. Money! Too much time, effort and outlay for very little return.

This is very true,The logistics for a show are a nightmare,This year i taged onto specialist leasures stand as i only had a small amount of stuff ready but the stand itself takes many hours to set up then every morning you get your gear out and every night it goes away can be hard work but on the flip side the social side is worth the effort we went on wednesday to set up and had a good time, met lots of people from this forum and enjoyed D&G's hospitality,They put us to shame realy,do it all over again next year,

Carl.

Some of the stands go to all that lengths and STILL don't put price tags on...... I can't fathom it, I'm not rich, I need to know how much it is, by not putting a sticker on I presume I won't be pleasantly surprised <_<

I had the money.

I had the time.

I had a pass out from 'her indoors'

I had a room booked in a travel lodge off the A5.

I also had a spectacular dose of, er, 'tummy trouble' from Thursday through Sunday. Daren't stray more than 10 feet from toilet all weekend.

Damn, damn, damn.

Didn't go. Billing has lost it's edge for me. I've been to Eastnor the last couple of years and it's so much better. Not as big but a friendlier atmosphere.

Ditto but I didn't go to Eastnor either. As I get older I can't be bothered to spend money to travel miles to a show then to pay money for the privilege of being invited to spend more money on stuff which is rarely cheaper than I can get it anyway.

Bah - humbug.

I think this is why the L2B is good - everyone turns up, gets a free T-shirt and plaque, then crawls over/under each others landies whilst drinking beer. The morning after you all drive to the seafront and do a bit more nosing around. There's a small shopping element if you want it, but basically everyone's just there for the fun.
