Hybrid_From_Hell
Hello All, FINALLY finished my latest "Visability" mod to bodywork, ................. Yes, this started after the last 'old sodbury' in Oct 2005, ............... when I bought 2x 90 panels, or so I thought, ..........Ooops, they were Series 3s....B*gger Further purchases some weeks later............. The basic idea is that after competing for 20+ years in Truck Cab LRs a 'hard top' was a real shock to the system, ....big, ......and basically no side or rear vision at all, Trees were found by the "Braille Off Road Method" similar to the "Eh ??.. Whys that spectator screaming and gesturing at me" method Was going and thought long and hard about canvas, ............... but shelved that after a mate shredded his at 1 event, ........... and moaned about the flapping about and lack of security..... I also did think about a Truck cab - seriously thought about it, ... but I LOVE the space the hardtop gives.... I tried cutting a couple of windows into the sides, they were a great improvement, but I thought......." I could do better."............. This is a simple mod, the logic was to buy a pair of CSW TD5 sides, without the glass bits (which will break) , drill holes all around it, and then fit some shatterproof 3mm perspex to then, along with some stainless Bling Allen dome socket cap heads and Stainless washers & nuts etc... Fitting them should be a 'nuts and bolts' job, .............but not for me with a 1985 90 and 2001 and 2005 sides, some of the holes needed to be redrilled to line up with slight model year changes, ...........and the side lips on the inside needed trimming around the roll cage, ............... but not too tricky, ...........just takes a bit of time.... Also bought and mounted additional clamps from bottom of side to top of rear body, now having 4 each side... Ripley (this forum) did his magic on the spraying, superb job(s) graham cheers matey , look lovely .....nice colour match...... and qulaity job, ........recomend him 101% for any painting you need..... Bit of work later sees these : Sitting in the 90, the side vision now is as tho its sideless ! Simple and effective, I'm well chuffed, ,......when they get scratched and beaten up (which they will) .............its an easy drill and replace with 2 bits of perpex..... Just a thought for those Series and 90 Hard-toppers amongst us ? Nige

BogMonster
How did you seal around the edges Nige, or didn't you bother...? maybe thought that as a LR will leak anyway, you might as well know where it is leaking? Nice job Next time I smack a side window on a tree I'll get right on to doing that P.S. did you consider getting some of that 1 inch thick stuff like they make Space Shuttle windows out of
mmgemini
Lexan. Super stuff. Wait until the toerag hurts himself when the window doesn't break.LOL Developed by GEC for the windows of the Gemini spacecraft. No licences given so they keep the price up. MarkieB
veeery tidy. I suppose a bit of the seal for a safari door window would work to make it watertight? not overly pricey either: http://www.diyplastics.com/makrolonlexanprices.htm although I'm shocked you didn't go for 12MM

Petergg
Nice job, I have darkened rear windows which can be a pain at times. The other problem would be getting my waffles out Peter
