Hello

I've got a few quest regarding the rebuild of my Tdi but i think they are fairly generic.

The first quest is regarding the dowels ( that the locate the head/block. Can these be removed and reused easily, or is it recommended to use new? If they become loose i presume they cannot be reused, which links back to the first quest!

Also it says in the manual that the cam shaft and oil pump drive gear should remain meshing in the same position as when they were removed. What can happen if it isn't exactly as it came apart?

Cheers for any help in advance

Chris

yes thay can be taken out with out damaging them but if thay dont come and brack getting them out thay wont be much money

gears like this like to run in the same mesh and to get the maximum life out of them you need to get them back the same

by going back in a diffrent mesh thay may mesh badly and corsing exesive wear shortening the life of the cam shaft and oil pump

Cheers, when i looked the dowels up, they were quite expensive ( for what they are) about £4 from the only place i could find them.

I think the gear position is as it came out, however there is no real way to tell what the correct postion is, is there? Is there any signs (noises etc..) to listen for when its running that will indicate a problem?
