Fourtrak engine conversion

Recommended Posts

Hi there.

Im a newbie as far as Land Rovers go. Ive just bought my first, a Defender 90 ex-mod with 2.5D normally aspirated engine. It really is a great truck!

My previous 4x4 was a Daihatsu Fourtrak 2.8TD. That has just failed the MOT on pretty much everything BUT the engine...

Im tempted to put the Fourtrak engine into the Defender. My questions:

1. Is it worth it? Ill be using it for offroading, and i want to best combination possible.

2. How difficult is it to put the Fourtrak engine in?

3. I have seen one company who provide the conversion kit, Conversion and Precision. Is there anyone else?

If you have any other info about this, please let me know

Thanks

Yes it's easy enough.... I got a mate to skim and drill/tap the flywheel, you'll have to cut a little off of the passenger foot well.... Defiantly worth it for the extra power and MPG.. You'll need another exhaust and I found fitting an alternator with in-built regulator simplified wiring a bit... Also stick an intercooler on her ;)
