Stroppy Cow
Depends what you class as a mountain to be honest is their a lot of wiring involved e.g wiring looms etc....or is it a case of just getting power to certain things?? Mo Murphy
You'll need the TD5 wiring harnesses too. There is a lot more wiring and mostly it's not a DIY job, so you'll need the real things. Mo

honitonhobbit
What do you want to do with it? At the moment the cheapest Defender to run is a V8 on Gas. Even though I hate to say it, the 3.5 and 3.9 V8's are pretty good engines. If you are using it for towing etc, gas it. if you are overlanding it then put a small gas tank in for the UK and Western Europe (except the Iberian peninsular) and fit automatically adjustable timing. Petrol is so cheap in foriegn parts
Guest diesel_jim
To fit a Td5 you'll need (to make is easier), a full bulkhead loom (ebay ~£50), rear chassis loom (ebay ~£30), fuel tank & loom (~£100), exhaust (well, at least the downpipe), radiator & intercooler (& Pipes) give porny a shout on here, he'll be able to source most,if not all, of the parts. Bowie69
all sounds good....is the V8 really that cheap to run on gas at the mo?? 11mpg on petrol on my Rangie, 10mpg on gas but the price makes it equivalent to around 25mpg.... That's with short journeys (less than 15 miles generally) lots of bolt on silly stuff, mud terrains and carrying too much weight... a Defender would likely be cheaper than that -especially if it's a manual. honitonhobbit
Boggo Disco 3.9 auto driven sensibly and using a nation 'deals on wheels' gas supplier equates to 41mpg on Diesel Defender 130 with a 4.2 and auto, running 33's and towing upto MAM but with no daft roof racks or roof clutter equates to 36mpg These are real time figures form genuine vehicles at the timeof going to press However a certain member of this forum who has a 4.4 TVR under the bonnet of his Camel 110 can regularly achieve single figures but that is due to a nasty ailment with his right foot
