Les Henson
I have a Butters 170amp MIG and need to hire a generator to power it for a job. Does anyone know what size generator I will need to hire? I'll only be welding 2.2mm plate on a SWB S3. Ta gents/gentesses Les.
FridgeFreezer
Probably at least 5kva, as with most power tools you need 50-100% more power than the thing's rated for to make everything work happily.

Take your MiG and some plate to the hire shop to suck it and see. 3KVa and up is certainly where you'll be looking.

carl hurst
I was looking at a Tig/mma set to run of a geny for site work and was told that not many welders like to be run from a geny, may be worth checking if yours will run ok without runing risk of damage to unit, Carl.
