Guest diesel_jim
P.S I notice no one's mentioned S.R.P.I.,N The outgoing carrier i've just sold came from the orange scrap company. it doesn't fit with my NAS lights, hence having to flog it. Guest diesel_jim
just scroll down to it here That's the pic i've got Ralph, about the size of a postage stamp. also it looks rather super imposed as opposed to the genuine article. thats why i emailed them to see what/if they can come up with anything better. beekay
I think there was a thread similar to this a couple of weeks ago. So, just to add my two-penneth again, I have had the Bearmach item fitted to my 95 year Defender for about three years. It's the one with the grease nipples and has proven to be very robust. The rear door mounting plate is showing signs of peeling as mentioned earlier, but this is pretty minor. Apart from that there are no issues. FYI the Paddock part PM976 is the Bearmach item BA132 and its only £110.64 for the 2002 on model. Even cheaper for the pre 2002 item. Personally I am very pleased with it, a very solid item. Guest diesel_jim
I got quoted £148 + vat for a *special* price today from Bearmach (cardiff)..... wow. Still going to go for a mantec i think though. For anyone who lives around here (Swindon), the bearmach cardiff chap says that there are no plans to re-open the swindon shop "for the forseable future"
_Luke_
i bought a bearmach one for 125 quid from craddocks thinking itd fit my 90. Unbeknowest to me bearmach seem to have a thing against NAS lights! so it remains in the shed untill i get around to messing around with it to make it fit. If i had know that when i bought it i would have got the mantec one haha.
bosbeer
Have one of those scorpion racing wheel carriers. Very strong though, it even has a hilift jack foot and enough space to bolt my beadbreaker to. Only one complaint-- Intsructions are bad and difficult to figure out, the wheel is at an offset to the left and it looks odd on my 2007 Puma. Also fixes partially to the body I have removed it and awaiting a new designs from frontrunner tha works with a piston attachment , and is fixed to the chasis. davidlandy
I have a mantec one fitted to the rear of my 90, looks like the one in the simmonites piccy - it has a stainless 'shocker' type assembly on the rear of it that bolts to the door. it has been great , no rattles even with a 35" hanging on it. Its been hit when dropping off steep slopes and hasnt suffered as a result. I did however reverse into a tree and that bent the bottom bar in a bit , but still no ill effects other than a bend. I ws goin to bend it back then decided to leave it as it meant the bottom of the spare wheel was closer into the body!

AndyO
Hi there, my name is andy, and I'm new here. I saw this thread and thought it's perfect timing as I'm after a spare wheel carrier as well. However i'm slightly different... I have a soft top 200tdi defender. Does anyone have any recommendations as to what wheel carrier is good/suitable as I understand there are a few differences. thanks for your help. I'll try to post up some pic's as soon as I can Cheers

Does anyone have any recommendations as to what wheel carrier is good/suitable as I understand there are a few differences. thanks for your help. I'll try to post up some pic's as soon as I can Cheers Soft top wheel carriers are different to account for the half door and drop tailgate. Mantec also cater for soft tops (as, I'm sure, do the others). BTW: I fitted mine at the weekend. Took a couple of hours but mostly because I was double-checking all steps. No real issues with the fitting - very straightforward. One additional advantage now that it is fitted is that the wheel (235s) no longer touches the rear 3/4 panel when the door opens. There's heaps of space to take a bigger wheel if required. Very pleased with the final result.
BigSi110
I fitted mine too, but it took me a bit longer. Although I did waxoyl the rear door insides and cleaned a few more bits that still had dirt on them... Very pleased with it and very straightforward to fit! Even for a chimp... Marco
Mine is a Paddock one, BM as far as I know. It has been excellent so far. But lining it up on the rear door has been a bit of a struggle. But both rear cross member and rear door are however non genuine replacement items! Cheers Marco
will5583
dear Ryan, I know you stated that the instructions are copies of a copy, do you still have them as my bearmach has no fitting instructions, if so could you email them to me please, trying to get that 110 of mine back on the road. will5583@yahoo.co.uk will558360 Yours respectfully uote name='Ryan' date='12 August 2008 - 07:42 PM' timestamp='1218570129' post='297779'] I'm only worth a 0.5 I've recently fitted the Bearmach one. I got it at my local specialist with club discount for a little over £100. I'm more than happy with it, though the destructions were a little on the iffy side as they were a copy of a copy of a copy so it wasn't clear what bracket went where, and meant the bracket destined for the back door got mounted for a short time on the bodywork . Apart from that, I like it, and I could justify to myself spending over £200 on one...
will5583
Matt, do you still have the instructions? I have a Bearmach with no fitting instructions, the centre swing arm is the problem, could you email the instructions or photos of the fitt to the back door closed half open and fully open many thanks Will I have the bearmach one. Bought from Paddocks when they had them on offer about 4 years ago for £80 odd. I can honestly say that I am well chuffed with it. Everything is greaseable, it came with all the hardware and a decent set of instructions, was easy to fit, doesn't rattle and has taken no small amount of abuse - I regularly stand on the spare to access the rear of the rack.... Other plus point for me is that it's offset slightly to the drivers side - meaning that I have plenty of clearance for the NATO hitch on the rear x-member. dantd5
WAit a minute ... What about a rack for the high lift Jack... I bought my defender 110 99MY with a comfortable base for the high lift jack...S.H.CPRON's carrier had it.( Coat and hat and stick..'m off) All the above mentioned carriers have nothing to carry the jack right??? Unless an adult proves me wrong.....
