JimAttrill
The original LR service Bulletin of 1997 stated that MTF94 could and should be retrofitted into LT77s. So go ahead. The gear change may improve as well.

Bull Bar Cowboy
Castrol SMX - S (about £11 per L) is the same as Caltech (Texaco) MTF94 ................. The Aussies seem to like Castrol Syntrans but its availability is almost nil in the UK unless you want 20L at a time (£200 ish). This is a heavy duty truck manual transmission oil whereas the SMX - S is aimed at the passenger car and light 4x4. But I guess any of the above is better then ATF !
