HoundDog
I remember reading somewhere on here (I think Western still answered) the part numbers for fitting a rev counter to a 200Tdi (Disco). I cannot for the life of me find the thread so if someone can direct me there I'd appreciate it very much. Also, how difficult is it to fit a rev counter to a 300Tdi Defender? Thank you very much. Shox Dr
very easy, take a wire from the alternator (W) ISTR, power from a live and its done, you'll need to flick a few mini buttons on the back of the gauge, but its not hard
LandyManLuke
VDO do a nice diesel-compatiable rev counter in their Vision Range, VDO make the LR instruments too. on a tdi, the rev counter is fed a signal from the W terminal on the rev counter. You'll need to make sure you've got a W terminal on your alternator. Welcome to the forum, btw.
BigSi110
I'll photograph mine if you want, chap. Not that my 110 is a patch on your wonderful machine.

Ex Member
VDO Vision fits straight in and matches the other instruments. They are fully adjustable, so can be made accurate no matter what they are hooked up to. If you do not have a W terminal on the alternator, it is easily added. LandyManLuke
indeed, a VDO vision rev counter. It was fitted 4 years ago, but inflation surely hasn't been that bad!!

Ex Member
egauges.com http://www.egauges.com/vdo_mult.asp?Type=T...ion&Units=E $72 USD. Other stuff is cheapish.... $25 for an F temp gauge plus a sender. $25 for the fuel gauge (uses stock sender). $115 for the speedo plus a Disco or TD5 sender. JimAttrill
Rather spend your money and fit something useful like a boost gauge, or even a voltmeter. My 110 has a VDO tacho fitted as standard. Looks pretty as above and fills the hole. I can't remember when I last looked at it. With a Tdi you change gear depending on the noise level and the vibration. roybatty666
Sounds just like me Would be nice to fit something that doesn't result in me getting covered in grease Although I feel slightly tingly when I think of a set of true tracs, bye bye back lash and hello traction

PGM316
Can you tell me how you over rev a diesel? Old thread, but just wondering. I've driven mostly petrols, is it hard to over rev a diesel? I've mine booked in for a full service tomorrow, after the decent boost of power from the turbo (300tdi)it quicky runs out of steam.
western
300tdi produces 111bhp & 195lbft torque, it's max revs are 3850rpm, with the fitted standard gearing it should be possible [where legal] to top 85/90 mph, the engine has a built in governor in the FIP, so you can't over rev it,
Jon W
Any idea what a 200tdi rev too?? Im sure my disco revs up to over 4000 without any limitation. Jon
