fender1234
Hi, Ive been taking out my gearbox and transfer box today to get the box reconditioned. but i could not get the box and transfer box apart. So i took the pto cover plate off the back of the transfer box and tryed taking the input gear off. I thought it was supposed to just slide off but it seems to have seized onto the gearbox mainshaft because it will not come off no matter what i try any ideas? thanks
Les Henson
If the input gear and splines are worn, then it's a lot more difficult to get off. You need to rotate the transfer box gears as you pull it out. Do this by turning one of the drive flanges. Les.
fender1234
thanks Les i think the splines are worn as there that red paste stuff. so turn the drive flanges and pull it out by hand or will i need some sort of gear puller? regards
BogMonster
Bit of rocking back and forwards in gear with the cover off might loosen things up a bit, assuming your diffs are still connected
