OT: longer mk2 escort track rods ends

I have fitted a new quick ratio rack and find the track rods are not long enough - one track rod in the old rack had obvioulsy been lengthened.

The easiest solution would be to find track rod ends (cortina uprights) that have about 20 mm longer threaded shank. (escort mk2 rack)

So need for something like this:

compared to mk 2 escort:

A very long shot, but would anyone know of which car/model has longer track rod ends, M14 x 2.0 thread

but with taper to suit ford mk2 escort?

Due to the track rods engaging about 10 mm into the tre, I cannot to use the GTS/RD extensions.

As a last resort I could use them but that would require cutting my track rods down, then re threading them.

(invalidates warranty)

Another possibility is taking apart track rod ends and making up my own, 2 (or 3) things need to match:

1. diameter of thread part

2. dimensions of tapered joint; (I can use mk2 escort)

3. ball diameter?

There may a tre with the right thread but wrong tapered part. By removing the pressed in cover, I could take the tapered bit out and replace with escort.

Can't see why that won't work? ... unless there is a ball/socket size mismatch?

Any other ideas?

Two friends of mine are curently restoring a Mexico I can ask them if they know anything. The dad used to rally them he will definatly know.

It might be a bit more up northen chris's ally as he is into rallying more than I am.

Give me a ring later if he can't help.

Been to Allparts and went through their entire book!!!

There is no track rod with longer female end of the right thread - it seems there are 5 cars that used this, Fords, a nissan and volvo!! but annoying plenty in dame diameter but different pitch [band head against wall!]

Another possiboility is using a track rod end with male thread, same diameter but different pitch and joion together with tube tapped accordingly.

Otherwise cutting the track rod ends is the only way - really really frustrating since I bought a new quick ratio rack as the old one had a bent track rod - I might as well cut the damaged part off and fit extensions!!!

Apologies I didn't reply to the folks who responded - cannot get to the forum on dial up!!
