renault4 Posted September 9, 2008 Share Posted September 9, 2008 following clutch change on my 1991 defender 90 (102K) I now have a strange clunking noise when changing gear. I had the usual transmition slack before (and still have) but what I have now is as follows. from standstill into first, no noise. from first to second, second to third and third to fourth, a clunk when I depress the clutch and another when I select a gear. from fourth to fifth and from standstill to reverse, no noise It only happens when going UP the box but not down. When I was re-fitting the gearbox I struggled to get the thing into the engine and I was a bit heavy handed with it, do you think that I have damaged anything when putting the gearbox back?
