101sean
Errr, why do you need to snip anything, just swap the bulbs If wiring for civvy socket, just plumb in to junction box and leave NATO wiring in place
Matt Neale
Errr, why do you need to snip anything, just swap the bulbs If wiring for civvy socket, just plumb in to junction box and leave NATO wiring in place Or do what I did and just change the 12 pin military plug for a 7 pin civvy plug (and then swap the bulbs for 12 volt ones...!) Wires are as follows: [Pin A] = wire #1 = Convoy = not used on 12N [Pin B] = wire #2 = Stop = Pin 6 / Red [Pin C] = wire #3 = Convoy = not used on 12N [Pin D] = wire #4 = Earth = Pin 3 / White [Pin E] = wire #5 = Tail = Pin 5 (RH Tail/Brown) & Pin 7 (LH Tail / Black) [Pin F] = wire #6 = Fog = Pin 2 / Blue [Pin H] = wire #7 = Convoy = Not used on 12N [Pin J] = wire #8 = Stop = Pin 6 / Red [Pin K] = wire #9 = Aux = Not used on 12N [Pin L] = wire #10 = Earth = Pin 3 / White [Pin M] = wire #11 = LH Indicator = Pin 1 / Yellow [Pin N] = wire #12 = RH Indicator = Pin 4 / Green I've had a couple of Sankey type trailers and done this with them all. The mil spec wiring is a lot better than the aftermarket civvy stuff - I'd be inclined to hang onto it. Matt
jason110
hello, ive got 2 sankeys, are they all 24v spec? they both have the original NATO hitch. is there any way i can tell ? thanks in advance jason
Lars L
Check what's stated on the bulbs. If it lacks all of them, just buy new in whatever voltage you like.
Guest WALFY
If you look at the base of the buld it will state all sorts of info. 2 bits being the voltage and the wattage. Both bits which are important to you

steffUK
Would this adapter from 13 pin to 7 pin work as well? I'm not sure if the "european" 13pin is the same as the military 13 pin? cheers stef Towsure: 13-pin to 7-pin Adapter E604 Adapter for towing a caravan wired with a single 13-pin Euro-style plug, with a vehicle fitted with UK spec 12N and 12S Sockets
Lars L
If my memory isn't playing up, I think the military plug has 12 pins... Several yaers since I changed the whole shabang to a civvy 7-pin plug.
101sean
No, won't work, that's a different animal entirely and as Lars says, NATO is 12 pin.
