Would appreciate some help regarding a Whine

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have recently been noticing a whining noise and would appreciate some advice on the cause. I have a 200tdi with an R380.

I can either be in gear or neutral and moving or stationary. But it always occurs when I put my foot down on the accelerator and decreases when I lift the foot. When I do ease off the accelerator, the sound winds down rather than just stopping straight away.

It isn't the normal turbo whistle sound as I know what that sounds like, but is engine based as far as I know. I have had a listen in the engine bay when the engine was cold and couldn't hear anything. Next step is to try it when it has heated up a bit.

thanks,

mad

Thanks for the replies.

I had a listen under the bonnet but can't hear anything from there. So I sat back in the cab and I could hear it coming from around the fuse box area/transmission tunnel area.

So I climbed underneath as far as I could while still reaching the pedal and tried again, but couldn't hear anything.

Seems like it is only audible from inside which doesn't make sense.

Nope, the radio is not on. Good idea tho.

This has me stumped. I thought it was gearbox to start with as it increased when I put the pedal down and reduces when I lift my foot, but I can be parked in neutral and it still happens.

Will ask my neighbour to do the throttle while I climb all over/in/under it and try and find the source.
